Christmas is coming! Although we are still feeling the effects of the past year’s challenges, this time of year is a wonderful opportunity to get together with those you love, have a short break somewhere in the UK and take in the festive period. And Cardiff is such a wonderful place to visit during the winter months. This year the city is pulling out all the stops to welcome you back!
If you stay at one of Aaron Wise’s stylish city centre apartments, you will be in amongst the action, so can get your Christmas fix without straying too far from your apartment! We take a look at some great things to do this Christmas period in Cardiff nearby to your Aaron Wise apartment. So whether you’re staying for two, three, five nights or more, we’ve got you covered!
A short two night Christmas shopping getaway in Cardiff
If you’re travelling to Cardiff to pack in some Christmas shopping you’re coming to the right place! For the ultimate handmade art and crafts from predominantly small Welsh businesses, Cardiff Christmas Market has returned this year. Just a few minutes walk from Aaron Wise apartments, wrap up warm and wander through with a mulled wine in hand to keep warm until 23 December. And for market goods Portcanna Market has some amazing markets, which change depending on the day. Check out the Portcanna events calendar to plan your visit.
Along the route of the Christmas Market, you’ll see a few of the six Victorian shopping arcades that are dotted around Cardiff. These beautifully preserved structures provide a more intimate shopping experience, and you’ll be able to pick up unique gifts, as well as something for yourself.
At the end of the Christmas Market route (depending on which way you go!) you will arrive at the impressive entrance to Cardiff Central Market, a glass-roofed beauty of a building. The market sells everything from bowler hats to balls for your cats and is a great spot to find Christmas presents. And some lunch from one of the many excellent food stalls while you’re at it. Plus, if you’re exhausted from all the shopping and fancy a night in, you could buy some fresh produce to cook at home in your fully equipped Aaron Wise kitchen and watch a film while relaxing on your sofa.
Three nights exploring Cardiff with loved ones
If you have an extra day to enjoy the festivities, and are all shopped out, just 5 minutes from your Aaron Wise apartment is Cardiff Castle. Not only is it worth a visit to learn about its rich history (and if you’re lucky, it looks magical in the snow), but they hold a number of festive events including classic Welsh Christmas banquets, excellent ice skating and Christmas films such as Elf and personal favourite Die Hard! Winter Wonderland is spread across the Castle and City Hall Lawn and has all the Christmas-related fun you could wish for – a funfair, ski lodge bar and even an ice bar!
